What’s New at Inner Vibrations Sound Healing

March 2010!  The days are getting longer, the ice is on the move and the geese are already searching for a place to nest.  Can you feel the stirrings of Spring around you?  Take a moment to stop and really listen to the song of the birds and the sound of the wind.  Listen for the layers beneath the layers and notice where you are feeling the sounds in your body.  Pain is a signal that something needs attention.  One of my teachers states, “The issue is in the tissue”.  He means we hold on to things so tightly and for so long they settle into the physical layer of our energy field and show up as pain.  We need to treat the root of the problem (emotional, mental, spiritual) which then allows the physical (body) to heal.  Do not confuse healing with curing.  Western medicine says we are cured when there is no longer physical evidence of disease.  Holistic medicine says we can be healed even while we still exhibit physical signs of disease.  How is this so?  A “cure” fixes the symptoms while "healing" helps people to become more whole and to function at a higher level.  Watch Michael Lerner’s discussion about this topic on Youtube for a complete explanation.  Dr. Lerner is an expert in complementary and alternative healing in cancer treatments.

Workshops

I led a crystal bowl meditation at the Circles of Rhythm bi-weekly drum circle in Ranchlands last month.  Drumming is a great way to release “Klingons” and get your blood  pumping.  “Klingons” are those habits and patterns we keep hanging on to even though they aren’t serving us.  Drumming and Toning are like soap – the vibrations loosen the scum enough to start shaking things off and loosening things up. I’ve added some links in the Kimbits section on where you can experience these fun and beneficial evenings.

I am presenting Healing Sounds for Women’s Health Centre out in Cochrane at Birdie’s Nest on April 21.  Call (403) 944-2260 to register.  If you are a member of the Calgary Winter Club catch the workshop there on Saturday, April 17th.

Marsha Read and I are presenting a new workshop at Spiritual Directions on Saturday, April 10th.  Join us to learn Your Heart’s Song and find the note you were born on.  The workshop runs from 9:00-3:00.  Call 587-777-4811 to reserve your space.

Enjoy a  Toning/Crystal Bowl meditation for just $10.00.  They happen on the 1st Monday and 3d Tuesday of each month.  Call 587-777-4811 or 403-239-3517 to reserve your space.  Check out the Events page on my web site for information on all upcoming events.

Vitamin D: Get those levels checked!!!

I had the pleasure of attending a talk given by Dr. Tieraona Low Dog calledTop Selling Supplements: The True Story”.  She spoke as part of Mount Royal University’s Integrative Health Institute: Body of Knowledge Lecture Series.   It’s a great series and there’s still time to catch the two remaining lectures.  Dr. Low Dog has impeccable credentials as an integrative physician specializing in herbal and dietary supplements.  She talked about the 10 essential supplements everyone should take and was astonished that Vitamin D was not in the top 10 supplements Canadians buy.  Vitamin D “aids in the absorption of calcium, helping to form and maintain strong bones. Recently, research also suggests vitamin D may provide protection from osteoporosis, hypertension (high blood pressure), cancer, and several autoimmune diseases.”   A recent Calgary Herald article, Falling for Vitamin D, states that Vitamin D is “Well-established as being effective in cancer prevention and cancer survival, [and] it can also help prevent falls in the elderly.”   Ask your doctor to have your levels tested as it’s the only way to find out, and get it done in the winter when your levels are low due to lack of sunshine.  Dr. Low Dog says buy Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) as it absorbs better than Vitamin D2.

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic doctors are the general practitioners of the complementary health care field.  They undertake an advanced university degree to earn the protected designation of N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor). Do not confuse a N.D. with a naturopath. Anyone can call themself a naturopath. It simply means someone who practices naturopathy. It doesn't mean they have the extensive training required to pass the regulation and licensing required by many Canadian provinces. As such legislation is still pending in Alberta registration is voluntary.  Visit the Alberta Association of Naturopathic Practitioners to determine if a naturopath is registered in Alberta.

Recession Proof Complementary Therapies: A Win-Win Situation

Here’s a win-win situation!  Visit a practicum clinic and receive low-cost treatments from students who are learning their craft.  The students are supervised by senior staff members.    You can receive Healing Touch for a small donation, acupuncture sessions for $20 - $25, cupping for $25 and massage, aromatherapy, reflexology or acupressure for only $30.  The win-win is the considerable cost savings you enjoy while receiving the benefits of the therapy AND helping the students achieve their goals.  I’ve also included low-cost options for you to experience Sound Healing, Drumming and Chanting. These Sound Healing techniques are all about vibration and how to harness the power of these frequencies to release blocked pain and emotions.

When you are trying out a new therapy go for 4-5 sessions before making a decision on whether to continue.  It takes time to move energetic blocks that have settled in the body and one session of anything isn’t a fair assessment.  However, if you have not noticed a change after 4-5 sessions acknowledge the therapy is not working for you and try something else.  Remember, nothing works for everybody and that’s true in conventional medicine as well.
